The
common size of worktops in the UK is 600mm.
Take into account you may have tiles on the
wall, which will make this measurement slightly
smaller. If your worktop is smaller, careful
consideration on size must be used. |

Most but not all
sinks are made with a front to back measurement
that will allow them to fit into an industry
standard worktop of 600mm. Most rectangular
sinks vary between 480mm to 515mm with the
odd sink at 520mm. The most common are 500mm & 510mm
but all of these depth sinks will fit into
a Standard 600mm or deeper worktop.
Measure the width - left to right, and the depth - front to back. It is
usually possible to fit a slightly larger sink by cutting out more of the
worktop, but this must be checked out accurately. |

Standard
sink bases are usually 600mm wide overall
with one door, or 1000mm overall with two
doors. (Please take note if there is a working
drawer under the drainer of the sink on double
base units). Other size base units may have
been used as the sink base, so just measure
the overall size of this unit. This information
is most important particularly if changing
from one bowl to more than one bowl.
When it is stated by the manufacturer that a sink requires a certain
minimum size base unit, this measurement refers to the overall width
of the unit (left to right) not the internal measurement.
Sink base units or ordinary
base units used as a sink base can vary in
size, usually the narrowest being 500mm wide
(left to right). The 500mm width unit has
a limited number of sinks with small enough
bowls that will fit, mainly 1 bowl with the
odd 1.25 bowl. A double base unit 1000mm
wide with a working drawer must also be classed
as a 500mm base for the allowance of the
bowl.
The 600mm wide unit is
the most commonly used, one door sink base.
It can accommodate most 1 bowl sinks and
nearly all 1.5 bowl sinks.
The 800mm and the 1000mm
double (two door) base units (without working
drawers) are required for some large 1.5
bowl sinks and all-ways for 1.75 bowl sinks.
Smaller sizes of units
can be adapted to take the bowl/bowls of sinks
but this may mean cutting into the adjacent
unit. |

The
majority, if not all of the sinks with drainers
that we supply, will allow the drainer to
sit above a drawer or appliance, in other
words there is nothing protruding below the
under side of the worktop. |
| A -e: |
The number of bowls you can have
in your sink will be determined by the width
(left to right measurement) of the sink base
unit, most of this information has been covered
in the previous section A
